Suzuki is working on the new 2018 Suzuki Jimny, which will be globally launched soon. The 4th generation Jimny is expected to be a replacement for the ageing and iconic Maruti Suzuki Gypsy in the India. Suzuki has adopted a classic and retro design template for the new Jimny with a boxy look and tall-boy structure. The new Jimny resembles something like the G-Wagon from Mercedes Benz with more compact dimensions.
As per sources, the long overdue Suzuki Jimny may also be manufactured in India by Maruti Suzuki for both domestic and export markets. Maruti Suzuki Jimny expected price in India is Rs. 5.50 Lakhs. The Suzuki Jimny has built a formidable reputation on the basis of three major attributes, namely its hatchback-like convenience, little coupe-esque attitude and the versatility akin to an SUV. The Jimny has an illustrious lineage spanning more than four decades and the second generation avatar has come to Indian shores which is called the Gypsy here. However, the Gypsy was an extended wheelbase variant of the global model which was even more compact.
The Jimny was first shown here at the 2002 Delhi Auto Expo. Suzuki is now considering making India its production hub for the fourth generation Jimny which will debut globally in 2017 itself. The fourth generation avatar of the Jimny is long overdue and there is healthy demand for the car from European dealerships who have been piling pressure on Suzuki for a replacement for the present model. The new generation Jimny will share its platform with the Ignis/Baleno and will be produced at Suzuki’s Gujarat plant that will commence operations in early 2017. Suzuki will look to tap markets in Europe (United Kingdom, Germany, France and others), South East Asia and even Brazil with its exports. The Jimny may also be sold in Japan.
